India has some of the best beaches in the world and there are plenty of them. The only tricky thing about that is knowing which ones to visit! An idyllic beach is the perfect place to relax and get lost in your thoughts. It’s also the perfect place to write in your diary or send postcards to friends… the only thing you might have to worry about is pen stains as you drift away whilst writing! Don’t worry about that for now, though, as it’s time to check out seven of the best beaches in India.
- Agonda Beach
We’re going to start this list with the serenity of Agonda Beach. Stretching its way along the beautiful coastline on the outskirts of Goa, this beach is the perfect place to soak up the sun. Its stunning sand and blue waters are becoming popular with visitors and there are plenty of restaurants, souvenir stalls and accommodations popping up. Definitely one of Goa’s finest!
- Radhanagar Beach
If you’re after a truly exotic beach, make your way to Radhanagar Beach! White sand, turquoise water, stunning natural beauty… this is the ideal spot to spend the day swimming and sunbathing. Radhanagar Beach is so highly thought of that it’s previously been awarded Time Magazine’s Asia’s Best Beach title. If you’re a thrill seeker this might not be the one for you as there are no water sports; however, if peace is what you’re after you will love it!
- Varkala Beach
Sitting an hour to the north of Trivandrum in Kerala is the breath-taking Varkala Beach. The stunning cliff top backdrop is part of what makes Varkala so striking, as is its outlook into the Arabian Sea. It’s becoming increasingly popular but is still a more peaceful option to some of the more commercial beaches in the region.
- Tarkarli Beach
This is one of the most untouched beaches on the list and maintains a really authentic feel of local life in Maharashtra. In addition to the peace and tranquillity of Tarkarli Beach, it also has one of the best coral reefs on the mainland. This is a beach that might not be on all the tourist guides, but it’s one you’ll certainly be glad you found.
- Gokarna Beach
Gokarna Beach in northern Karnataka is another of India’s gems. It also gives you an insight into what Goa was like years ago. Although it is becoming more developed, it still retains a sense of old day charm. Sit on the beach taking in the surroundings and write a postcard to your friends; just make sure you learn how to remove pen stains from clothes as this is a place where you’re very likely to drift off into daydreams!
- Benaulim Beach
Another of Goa’s stunning beaches, you might just spot a dolphin or two whilst you chill out here. There are plenty of activities to enjoy beyond relaxation, with boat rides, jet skiing and wind surfing among the fun you could have. Otherwise just lie down, enjoy the sun and breathe in the exotic atmosphere.
- Palolem Beach
We’ll finish with what some consider to be the most picturesque of all India’s beaches. Palolem Beach stretches for miles, bedecked with coconut palms, stunning flora and clear blue waters. There’s something for everyone here too, from the buzz of the beach centre to the tranquillity of a fishing boat trip.
There’s seven of the best – now it’s down to you to pick your perfect Indian beach!
